Artist: Réal Godbout
Comic-book artist Réal Godbout illustrates a classic winter scene in Montréal’s Golden Square Mile neighbourhood. Located northwest of downtown, this area was the epicentre of wealth in 19th-century Canada. A small circle of businessmen built audacious mansions along the slopes of Mont-Royal. Sadly, many of these homes did not withstand the test of time and were demolished. Godbout draws attention to the Redpath Mansion, which was torn down in 2014 despite strong opposition from heritage groups.
This piece is part of a broader collection depicting Mont-Royal in various settings. Godbout pays homage to 18th-century Japanese master Hokusai, globally renowned for his Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.
The artwork was done digitally by Réal Godbout and adapted to the postcard format by Studio Raton designer Olivier.
